Cook County Department of Public Health

Web Development and Social Media Consultant (2021-2022)

Cook County is the second largest county in the United States serving over 2.5 million residents. I came onboard to help people navigate their way through vital information during the pandemic; it was right after the vaccines came out, and the current site was complicated, the navigation was muddled, and people were actively complaining about being unable to find access to informations about the vaccines and where to register.

I knew I had to get busy… fast.

The first thing I had to do was clarify the main navigation. It was full of external campaigns that were confusing to site visitors. I also simplified the language which was too “government-speak,” I clarified the UX of the website so residents could find vital vaccine and testing information, and I made the site easy to navigate.

Most importantly, I made the site accessible-compliant, which besides being the law, is vital for a public health agency. I did all of this within 2 weeks and the feedback from the residents of Cook County was astonishing.

After the site was in working order, I created a wildly successful social media strategy, and did all content creation for it; this includes freshening the brand by adding more modern colors. I had several posts go organically viral with over 25M engagements. I worked with internal and external stakeholders and Community Based Organizations to create campaigns for underserved communities. It is the most important work I’ve ever done.
